Alpha glucosidase in vitro inhibitory activity and hypoglycemic effect by oral administration in rats of Piper trioicum ethanol extracts have been investigated. Piper trioicum extract showed in vitro inhibitory activity of intestinal alpha glucosiadse enzyme maltase. Analysis of data confirms that alpha glucosidase inhibition activity was maximum at 500 mcg/ml of Piper trioicum. The purpose of study was to know whether Piper trioicum extract could reduce intestinal absorption of monosaccharides by inhibiting disaccharide hydrolysis. The post prandial elevation in blood glucose level at 60 and 120 min after administration of maltose with Piper trioicum extracts (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg doses) showed significant suppression compared to control group. These results suggest that the Piper trioicum extract has potent alpha glucosidase inhibitory activity and would be effective in suppression of elevation in blood glucose after oral administration of maltose to rats.Keywords

Spectroscopy is the chief experimental technique of atomic and molecular physics and involves determining the energy states of atoms or molecules by looking at the light absorbed or emitted when they change states. Measuring the frequency of light absorbed or emitted which is determined by the energy difference between the two states, can provide a sensitive probe of interactions which perturb those energy states. Among those in this review we revealed that the principle, instrumentation and applications of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. In this sample is usually transported into the instrument as a stream of liquid sample. Inside the instrument, the liquid is converted into an aerosol through a process known as nebulisation. The sample aerosol is then transported to the plasma where it is desolvated, vaporized, atomized, and excited and/or ionized by the plasma. The excited atoms and ions emit their characteristic radiation which is collected by a device that sorts the radiation by wavelength. The radiation is detected and turned into electronic signals that are converted into concentration information for the analyst.Keywords

A new simple, accurate, rapid and precise isocratic High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed and validated for the determination of Aliskiren Hemifumarate (ALSK) and Valsartan (VAL) in bulk drug. The Method employs Waters HPLC system on C8 Column (4.6 x 250 mm, 5 μm) and flow rate of 1 ml/min with a load of 10μl. The Detection was carried out at 220 nm. mobile phase used as Acetonitrile and Phosphate buffer and Methanol was used as mobile phase in the composition of 45:40:15 , phosphate buffer (0.02Mm) adjusted the pH to 4 with Orthophosphoric acid within a short runtime of 8 min. The retention times of Aliskiren (ALSK) was 3.407 min, Valsartan (VAL) was 4.268 min. The method was validated according to the regulatory guidelines with respect to specificity, precision, accuracy, linearity and robustness etc.Keywords

The present method describes simple, sensitive, rapid, accurate, precise and economical Spectrophotometric method for the simultaneous determination of Diclofenac Sodium and Eperisone Hydrochloride in bulk and capsule dosage form. The method is based on the Vierodts Method (simultaneous estimation)for analysis of both the drugs using distilled water as solvent. Diclofenac sodium (DIC) has absorbance maxima at 277 nm and Eperisone hydrochloride (EPE) has absorbance maxima at 255 nm in distilled water. The linearity was obtained in the concentration range of 2- 12 μg/mL and 3-18 μg/mL for Diclofenac Sodium and Eperisone Hydrochloride, respectively. The concentrations of these drugs were determined by using vierodts equations. The mean % recovery (w/w%) was 99.3 and 100.3% for Diclofenac Sodium and Eperisone Hydrochloride, respectively. The proposed method was found to be simple and sensitive for the routine quality control application of dosage form of Diclofenac Sodium and Eperisone Hydrochloride. The results of analysis have been validated statistically according to ICH guidelines.Keywords

The present study was undertaken to evaluate anthelmintic and larvicidal activity of crude ethanolic leaf extract of Zyziphus mauritiana belonging to family Rhamnaceae. Through the preliminary chemical tests it was found that the plant is rich in flavonoids, phenols, steroids and tannins. Pheretima posthuma was used as the test worms. Various concentrations of ethanolic extracts were tested in the anthelmintic screening, which involved determination of time of paralysis (P) and time of death (D) of the worms. Piperazine citrate was included as standard reference and distilled water as control. In the case of larvicidal activity the study was conducted on Culex quniquefasicatus species of mosquito larvae and the rate of larval mortality was calculated. The results indicated that the crude ethanolic extract significantly demonstrated paralysis and also caused death of the helminth especially at higher concentration of 50 mg/ml, as compared to standard reference piperazine citrate. Similarly very optimistic results were observed for Culex quniquefasicatus species of mosquito larvae and LC50 value was calculated as 54.9658.Keywords

Alpha glucosidase inhibitory activities of Wrightia tinctoria Roxb and Schrebera swietenoides Roxb ethanol extracts were investigated individually. Wrightia tinctoria Roxb and Schrebera swietenoides Roxb bark extract showed in-vitro inhibitory activity of intestinal alpha glucosidase enzyme maltase. Analysis of data confirms that alpha glucosidase inhibition activity was the maximum at 1500mcg/ml of Wrightia tinctoria Roxb bark and 2000mcg/ml of Schrebera swietenoides Roxb bark. The purpose of study was to know whether Wrightia tinctoria Roxb bark and Schrebera swietenoides Roxb bark extract could reduce intestinal absorption of monosaccharides by inhibiting disaccharide hydrolysis. These results suggest that the Wrightia tinctoria Roxb bark extract and Schrebera swietenoides Roxb bark has little potent alpha glucosidase inhibitory activity individually and would be effective in suppression of elevation in blood glucose.Keywords

Among the different extraction techniques used at analytical and preparative scale, supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) is one of the most used separation technique, which mostly depends on critical temperature and pressure of supercritical fluid. This review covers the most recent developments of SFE indifferent fields (SFE applications), such as food science, natural products, by-product recovery, pharmaceutical and environmental sciences, during the period 2007-2009. The revision is focused on the most recent advances and applications in the different areas; among them, it is remarkable the strong impact of SFE to extract high value compounds from food and various natural products but also its increasing importance in areas such as heavy metals recovery, enantiomeric resolution or drug delivery systems.Keywords

Floating tablets were designed to prolong the gastric residence time after oral administration and to achieve controlled release of Lansoprazole to treat gastric ulcers. A combination of effervescent and noneffervescent mechanism is used. HPMC (Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose) was used as swelling polymer and sodium bicarbonate as gas generating agent to reduce the floating lag time. Floating tablets with varying proportions of sodium bicarbonate and HPMC were prepared. The prepared formulations were evaluated for various tablet and floating parameters. Tablet properties were found to be within the limits according to procedures prescribed in USP. They had a floating lag time around 3-7 seconds and floating time more than 24 hours. The cumulative % drug release in simulated gastric fluids after 10 hours was 70% - 95%. The mechanism of drug release was analyzed by fitting the release data into various kinetic models. It was found that all the formulations best fit the Higuchis model.Keywords

Acne vulgaris is a common human skin disease, characterized by areas of skin with seborrhea, comedones, papules, pustules and nodules. It affects mostly skin with the densest population of sebaceous follicles and these areas include the face, upper part of chest and back. Severe acne is inflammatory, but acne can also manifest in non inflammatory forms. Herbal treatment for acne is much safer in comparison to chemical formulations. The main two microbes that infect the acne are Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
In addition to using acne herbal treatments, consuming foods that are enriched with beta carotenes and refraining from oily foods are imperative for better response. Tree tea oil, olive leaf extract, aloe vera extract, neem extract etc are few examples of herbs with effective anti acne activity. The alternative systems of medicines like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathic systems have different kinds of treatment for this condition.
